Am I missing something here? Is Barrack Obama the current President of the United States? Or is he the reincarnation of Elvis???
You can’t walk though any shopping mall without tripping over Obama t-shirts, paintings, ashtrays, you name it! I’ve even seen a couple of t-shirts that showed Obama in a Christ-like pose. One even showed him with a crown of thorns on his head (So much for separation of Church and State!). Can you imagine the public outrage if this was done on Bush’s behalf?
The other day, I saw a life-size cardboard cut-out of The Messiah in the mall. I was looking at it when the store owner asked me if I needed any help. The poor bastard! I told him that I like the cut out but I was wondering if it came complete with a cardboard teleprompter. He didn’t get it and I wasn’t in the mood to explain it to him. I assume he voted for the cardboard guy.
Even while watching TV, I’ll see infomercials inviting me to experience rare, "once in a lifetime" opportunities. Perhaps I’d like to buy a gold plated commemorative coin with the Messiah’s silhouette engraved in it? Or perhaps, I’d like to purchase an official Obama ring tone for my cell phone. When my friends call, I’d be alerted by an inspiring “Change, Change, Change!” Or better yet, for a limited time only, I might be interested in an official replica of that illusive Hawaii birth certificate of the new Prez.
Also, in a shift of traditional protocol, streets, bridges and buildings are already being renamed for Obama. In the past, these distinctions were withheld until the President’s term was over. In Obama’s case, some of the name changes occurred BEFORE he served ONE day in office!
Hey, I’m not going to ignore the historical significance of Obama’s presidency. It is indeed a monumental step in our country’s history (I think his inexperience and socialistic ideals could have dire consequences for our country, but that's another story!). But for Obama's, excuse me, GOD'S sake, let’s not start building shrines and alters to him just yet. He’s been in office less than a month. And the only thing he accomplished so far is bankrupting our grandkids. As terrifying as it sounds, let’s let him fulfill his full term before rolling out anymore tacky merchandise….
